Project Profile: In the spring of 1967 the American Heart Association asked Edward Carfano, the President of Little Movies, Inc., to come up with four anti-smoking commercials. In approximately one week four spots were conceived, which included the "Like Father, Like Son" ad. All four spots were accepted and in the summer of 1967 Mr. Carfano's company, Edward Carr Productions Ltd., filmed and produced the commercials. All four commercials were completed and were aired starting September 15, 1967. "Like Father, Like Son" became an instant hit. In 1969 The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists had a special Awards Night and "Like Father, Like Son" was the premier showcase. This resulted in interviews on the Today Show and morning shows in Chicago and Los Angeles. The commercial ran until 1982, was translated into 26 languages, and has won numerous awards. To this day it is the longest running commercial or public service announcement. |
